Another Day, Another Colourpop Release…

Featured

I am a bit behind in posting this – I feel like this launch was forever ago! In reality, it will be two weeks tomorrow (10/10) that Colourpop launched their Pretty Fresh Tinted Moisturizer. In the realm of the beauty community, two weeks feels like an eternity!

I was very intrigued when I first saw this hitting Instagram and knew it would be a release I jumped on. Apparently, a lot of other people felt the same way. A lot of orders – including mine – got delayed in shipping. In fact, I just received mine on October 8, but I digress. Colourpop’s customer service was wonderful and kept me up to date with the status of my order and even sent me a special coupon code because of the delay!

I have seen a few influencers talk about this product and mention that the timing of its release seems odd. As popular as it is right now, I agree in thinking that it would have done extremely well if it had been released at the start of summer. Most people tend to go for more natural looks and less products during the hot summer months, while amping up the coverage for the colder months. I was interested in this because I have been looking for a quick, no-fuss kind of product to carry in my bag. For background, I work two retail jobs and sometimes bustle between the two with little time in between. I have very pale skin that unfortunately shows every bit of imperfections on a magnified scale. I have been looking for a product that will help even out my skin tone and give me more confidence while avoiding packing product on. I have combination skin – my t-zone can get extremely oily and I do have some chronic dry patches. My skin is sensitive and I have a lot of natural redness in my cheeks.

I have dabbled with tinted moisturizers in the past, but I could never find one that I liked. Some wouldn’t have the right shade for me; some would become Grease City and slide right off. The Pretty Fresh one from Colourpop seems to hit every category for me, so far.

Please keep in mind that this is only a FIRST IMPRESSION and not a dedicated thorough review of the product. I applied it with Colourpop’s flat top kabuki brush. Some people recommend using your hands to really work it in, but I wanted to try a brush first. I would definitely avoid a sponge/beauty blender with this – it would just get soaked up into the sponge.

The coverage on this product is light but buildable. Keep in mind that it is a skin tint – it will not provide the same results that a full coverage foundation will. For what it is marketed as, it does a great job. I found that it blended out easily for me and was enough to give a “your skin but better” look. It did settle into a few fine lines that I have, but I buffed it out once more and didn’t notice it happening again. It also does not have a scent! I’ll insert a photo below of the wear time – approximately four hours in. There is no retouching or editing done on my skin.

My only issue with this product is that it left my face feeling sticky. It didn’t transfer when I touched my face, but it just felt tacky the entire time I wore it. I did notice it got better the longer I wore it, but the next time I use it I’m going to try setting it with a loose powder. This is not a super long lasting product either; I wore it for about six hours and after the four hour mark is when I really started noticing it breaking up and fading away.

If you’ve been interested in the product, I would definitely suggest going for it! At only $14, it won’t break the bank!

Colourpop Pretty Fresh Tinted Moisturizer comes in 24 shades, with six skin tone categories. It is oil-free, contains hyaluronic acid, vegan, cruelty free, and only $14. It is available at: https://colourpop.com/products/pretty-fresh-hyaluronic-acid-tinted-moisturizer

Top Ten Fall & Holiday Candles!

The dog days of summer are finally over, and fall weather is starting to creep in! Every time I feel a cool breeze, I get excited thinking about the upcoming spooky season that is upon us!

Fall is my FAVORITE time of year – from the cooler temperatures to the changing leaves to the holidays that will be here before we know it – everything gets me excited!

I love decorating for fall and one of the quintessential parts for me is changing up my candles and wallflowers. As a frequent Bath & Body Works shopper, these scents are what I look forward to every year and have memories attached to these classic scents! I’ve complied a list of my top ten favorite fall and holiday scents for you to enjoy!

1.) Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow – notes include: Tahitian Vanilla, Pumpkin Spice, Homemade Marshmallow, & Drizzled Caramel

This scent wasn’t on my radar until two years ago! My scent preferences have definitely been changing in the last few years, and now this is one of my fall staples. It is the perfect candle to light up on a cold, dreary fall night when you curl up with a blanket and a good book! The fragrances blend so beautifully together to create a rich, calming, cozy aroma that fills your entire room!

2.) Cider Lane – notes: Warm Caramel, Granny Smith Apple, Dark Brown Sugar, & Ground Clove

I have loved this scent for YEARS! I’m taking a seven-year love affair at this point. While it’s only available in the fall, I burn this scent all year long because I love it so much. It smells just like a classic caramel apple that you’d get after spending the day out in the sunshine at the apple orchard or pumpkin patch! This is definitely my signature scent and I’ve gotten all my friends and family hooked on it as well!

3.) Tis the Season – notes: Rich Red Apple, Sweet Cinnamon, & Cedarwood

This scent, along with one further down in the list, screams Christmas in a candle for me. For as long as I can remember, growing up, this scent was burning at all the holiday gatherings. I have to pick one up every year because it’s become a tradition!

4.) Marshmallow Fireside – notes: Toasted Marshmallow, Smoldering Woods, Fire Roasted Vanilla, & Crystallized Amber

Another staple that’s been kicking around the household since 2012! I have to indulge in this ooey-gooey toasted marshmallow-ness every year! I typically don’t go for smoky/woodsy type scents, but the blend of sweet marshmallow and the smokiness is quite unique and creates a beautiful fragrance that reminds me of sitting around a bonfire, making s’mores. This is a scent that I typically use later in fall as the season is gearing closer to Christmas. It’s a great transitional candle for that time period! It will fragrance up your entire household with just the one candle!

5.) Pumpkin Apple – notes: Red Delicious Apple, Fall Pumpkin, Fresh Ground Cinnamon, & Clove Buds

Pumpkin Apple is the scent I always reach for in the height of July and August, when I’m dreaming of fall weather. It’s a nice fresh, crisp, fruity take on pumpkin that makes it acceptable to burn fall candles in summer! This scent is the younger cousin to Tis the Season, in meaning that this one is lighter and crisper. I don’t get a lot of pumpkin with this one, so it is a great transitional candle from late summer to early fall!

6.) Leaves – notes: Crisp Red Apple, Golden Nectar, Warm Clove Spice

Leaves is a great unisex fragrance! It comes across very spicy and cinnamon-y that reminds me of a glass of apple cider! It has been a fan favorite for years and is just a classic scent when you think of the generic range of fall candles. I have only recently added this to my collection in the last few years; as I stated before, my scent preferences are definitely changing and I’m enjoying more “grown-up” fragrances.

7.) Twisted Peppermint – notes: Cool Peppermint, Sugared Snow, Vanilla Buttercream, Fresh Balsam, & Hint of Musk

This candle is one of the strongest scents I have ever purchased! You will feel the coolness from the peppermint in your nose pretty quickly after you start burning it! I enjoy the tweaked blend of peppermint and the vanilla buttercream, and then fresh balsam gives it such a Christmas vibe that makes it so perfect for winter! I like to stock up on these during the Christmas season, because I’ve found that it also helps relieve some sinus issues I deal with during the winter!

8.) Crushed Candy Cane – notes: Crushed Candy Canes & White Sugar Crystals

This scent was brand new to me last year and I’m hoping it comes back again! I have ran out of candles and just have the wallflowers in it! This was one of the best Christmas scents released last year. If you like Twisted Peppermint, you’ll probably like this one, as well. While it has similar vibes to Twisted Peppermint, the biggest difference I found was that this one was more of a “warm” peppermint fragrance. I think the balsam notes in TP really hype up the coolness you get from it, while Crushed Candy Canes smells like homemade mints! I loved this scent and am hoping and praying it makes a return! It was also packaged in a frosted, blush pink glass jar, which made it the ultimately girly winter candle.

9.) Fresh Balsam – notes: Woodland Balsam, Crisp Eucalyptus, Fir Needles, & Cedarwood

This is the ULTIMATE Christmas in a jar scent. If you’re living under a rock and don’t know what this one smells like – it’s a Christmas tree in a jar. Not even joking! Most people I know don’t care for this scent, but it is one of those staple scents for my family every year! It’s so cozy lighting this candle up, plugging in the Christmas tree, and curling up with a blanket to watch a Hallmark Christmas movie. This is a great scent to gift as well! It’s also nice for those of us who have fake Christmas trees – you can get that genuinely tree smell without the tree.

10.) Winter – notes: Pine Needles, Fir Balsam, Winter Woods, & Orange Clove

Finally, our last scent: Winter. This candle is such an array of notes to me; it was never one I would pick for myself but it made the list because my mom loves it so much! Since she loves it, we’ve burned it for a few years now and it’s right up there with Fresh Balsam and Tis the Season as staple holiday/winter scents. The Orange Clove and smokiness that this candle gives off creates a unique fragrance for your home. I’m at a loss for words, but smelling this candle reminds me of coming in from playing out in the snow as child. The house is so warm and cozy compared to the arctic temperatures outside! It is tied to some great holiday memories for me and the nostalgia factor is what hooks me every single time. This one isn’t the strongest out of this list; I would need two for my open concept living room.

What candles/scents are you enjoying for this fall and holiday season? Let me know down below!

All of these scents are from Bath & Body Works – most of which are available now! Check back to their website soon for the more Christmas-related fragrances, as they should arrive right before Halloween!

Best Dupe Ever?

I picked up the Alter Ego “Goddess” palette that launched this morning! It appears to be an exact dupe for the Natasha Denona Gold palette that came out in the fall around the holidays. I have the ND one and I am excited to get this one and see how they compare! I plan on doing a dupe video between the two, showing each palette in action and also how the swatches go up against each other. Be sure to check out my other social media’s for more updates!

Ulta 21 Days of Beauty Spring 2019!!!

Welcome back to my blog after what feels like ages! I’ve had a very intense schedule the last couple of weeks and haven’t had time to play with makeup or create content, but today I’m back with some great news to share!

I’m sure everyone is aware that the best time of the year is upon us….and no, I’m not meaning Christmas. Ulta is preparing to host their semi-annual 21 Days of Beauty event and I’ve got the breakdown of daily deals along with recommendations for you!

The sale starts NEXT Sunday, March 17, and runs through Saturday, April 6. If you’re new to this event, basically: Ulta runs spectacular daily deals of various makeup and skincare products for up to 50% (or more!). The products go live at 12:01am and are available for the sale price in store and online until they sell out. Ultamate Rewards members receive free shipping upon purchase of a daily deal if they have reached Platinum or Diamond account status.

Upon first glance of the leaked ad, I wasn’t too interested in this year’s lineup of products but once I actually sat down and looked at it, I know I’m going to make quite a few purchases!

Listed below is the event calendar, along with sale and original prices. I’ve included small reviews and whether I think they are great deals as well. Enjoy!

Sunday, March 7

– Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara

Sale price: $11

Regular price: $23

I have used this, and it was my holy grail mascara back in 2015, but I think the formula has changed or my preference has. I ordered some last year during the sale and found that it was just super drying on my lashes and actually irritated my eyes this time. If you like this mascara, this is a great deal and perfect opportunity to stock up!

– Lancôme Cils Booster XL Mascara Primer

Sale price: $13

Regular price: $26

I got samples of this with some Ulta orders I placed over December and it’s decent. My mom loves this stuff, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase it. If you’re looking for a good mascara primer, check this one out. The sale price is a great time to grab it to try.

– Exuviance Performance Peel AP

Sale price: $38.50

Regular price: $77

Monday, March 18

– Dose of Colors Desi x Katy Friendcation palette

Sale price: $27.50

Regular price: $44

GET THIS PALETTE! I picked this up during the holiday blitz sales at Ulta and it is one of my all-time favorite palettes. The shimmers are stunning and the matters are so pigmented. Everything blends like a dream and you can layer up the shimmers to create more colors than what’s originally laid out in the palette. Samantha Ravandahl’s video is what truly sold me on this palette. I’ll leave it linked below.

Sam’s video: https://youtu.be/FBbwpj3m9pI

Regular price: $26

– Bareminerals Mineral Viel & bareSkin Perfecting Veil

– Proactiv Adapalene Gel & Exfoliater

Sale prices: $18-$20

Regular prices: $36-$40

– MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pots

Sale price: $11

I was thinking of picking one of these up since they’re a cult-classic, but I’ve made the decision to transition into a cruelty-free makeup collection and will no longer be purchasing MAC products.

Thursday, March 21

– Becca Backlight, First Light, and Ever Matte Primers

Sale price: $19

Regular price: $39

I purchased the First Light Priming Filter last year during the sale, and still have 1/3 of the bottle left. I mix it with the Too Faced Hangover RX primer and find that it’s a good combination for me. I won’t be repurchasing this time because I’ve picked up a few new primers lately and want to be able to get through my products before they go bad. I’d recommend the First Light one if you’re looking for a primer that leaves a radiant finish.

– Clarisonic Applicator Brush Heads

Sale prices: $19.50-$29.50

Regular prices: $39-$59

Friday, March 22

– Too Faced Chocolate Gold palette

Sale price: $24.50

Regular price: $49

This is a very interesting palette to look at. It definitely caught my attention when it first released. I haven’t used a Too Faced shadow, so I can’t speak of the formula. If you’re in the market for a new palette and like Too Faced shadows, then grab this while it’s on sale!

– SeroVital Dietary Supplement

Sale price: $49.50

Regular price: $99

Wednesday, March 27

– Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer

Sale price: $21

Regular price: $42

If you don’t know what this product is, Smashbox combined a primer and a moisturizer to create this 2-in-1 product. I’ve seen rave reviews in the beauty community about this, but I’ve never tried it. Smashbox primers don’t work out well for me so I’ve steered clear of this, but I suspect it will be a very popular sale.

– PUR 4 in 1 Pressed Powder Foundation

Sale price: $14.75

Regular price: $29.50

Thursday, March 28

– Buxom Full-On Plumping Lip Cream

Sale price: $10.50

Regular price: $21

This is one deal that is going to sell out. I believe they run this every spring and it sells out very quickly. If you’re interested in these, I would suggest looking at the colors before they go on sale and picking out what you want that way, so you’re ready to go when the deal goes live. My mom loves these, so I’ll probably pick some up for her.

– Dermadoctor Kakadu C Pool Pads

Sale price: $39

Regular price: $78

Friday, March 29

– Tarte Tartelette Toasted Palette

Sale price: $19.50

Regular price: $39

This deal caught my attention. I don’t own any Tarte palettes and decluttered the Urban Decay Naked Heat that came out around the same time as this one. I’ll have to watch some review videos on it, but I might scoop this deal up!

– Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Anti Wrinkle Booster Serum

Sale price: $40

Regular price: $80

Saturday, March 30

– Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner

Sale price: $11

Regular price: $22

I love this liner and have gone through two full size and two travel sizes. I’m using the NYX Epic Ink Liner currently, but I’m going to grab one of these for backup. It really does stay all day, and the pigmentation is incredible.

– Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

Sale price: $8.50

Regular price: $17

I haven’t tried this, but I’m planning on grabbing this as well. My skin has been going through it lately and I’d like to test this out and get it into my current rotation.

Regular price: $29

Sunday, March 31

I’m debating getting one of these – I have heard great things about them and one of my friends even uses it (and it looks fabulous!) I’m not sure I *need* another bronzer at the moment as I have an Hourglass bronzer and one of The Balm’s Take Home the Bronze shades.

Regular price: $24

There will be hot buys available during the duration of the sale, but the deals mentioned above are one day only specials. If you’re really interested in something, set an alarm to grab it as soon as it goes live on the website. That sounds crazy, but once they’re gone, they’re gone!

I’m not planning on picking up as much as previous sales, which makes me a little sad but my wallet is happy! Last year I ordered about 85% of the days. Let me know what you’re planning on picking up this year! Happy shopping!

Foundation Friday: L’Oréal Infallible Fresh Wear

Hello lovely readers!

This is the first installment of a series I would like to get started here on the blog, where I review foundations! I took inspiration from @ThaTaylaa on YouTube – I love watching her videos. She does foundation Fridays every week, along with a special fifteen-day long series entitled “15 Days of Foundation” where she tests a new foundation every day (for fifteen days). I’ll have her channel linked below, but I also wanted to mention that she partners with Project Beauty Share to raise awareness and money for their organization. Taken from the Project Beauty Share’s website: the organization collects personal hygiene, cosmetics and beauty products and distributes them through non profit organizations who serve women and families overcoming abuse, addiction, homelessness and poverty. ThaTaylaa has set a goal to raise $25,000 this year and you can check out more, including her announcement video on her YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/SvhafEkJ7pQ

In today’s Foundation Friday, I’ll be covering the L’Oréal Infallible Fresh Wear foundation. I discovered this one after watching KathleenLights mention it on her channel, and I’ve been seeing it pop up on Instagram as well. I went in search of hyped, new, or new-to-me drugstore foundations two weeks ago, and this was one of the five I purchased to test out. I was so excited about this one that I decided to try it first.

The foundation comes in thirty different shades, with a nice representation of the color spectrum, which is sometimes hard to find in drugstore lines. I purchased mine at Walmart, but it is also available at Ulta and I’m assuming everywhere L’Oréal is sold. I paid $11.97 for it, but Ulta has it listed for $14.99. (Remember, you can always use reward points for money off and Ulta is pretty good about always having some sort of coupon out to help save some money.)

The claims about this foundation:

⁃ breathable skin technology

⁃ 24-hour wear

⁃ Waterproof, transfer-resistant, and sweat-resistant

⁃ Natural finish, with a medium to fill buildable coverage

⁃ Formulated with SPF 25

I wore this foundation five times over the course of a week in different environments to really put it to the test. After the first application, I absolutely loved how it looked. The shade was almost an exact perfect match, it smoothed all my problem spots, had lovely coverage that blocked my redness, and left a radiant, dewy glow to my skin that just looked refreshing and hydrated. It didn’t feel like I had anything on. It dried down to a powder finish and worked wonderfully with my other products. I set it with a powder like I normally do, and it looked great. I didn’t notice it settling into fine lines or clinging in any spot, nor did I see any oil coming through.

There is a strong scent to it when you first put it on, but it didn’t distract me from the performance. It’s a clean scent so it was manageable.

The new few times I wore it, I switched up some products and generally had the same results. I did not like how it looked with the Colourpop No Filter Concealer and would not recommend those two be used together. I looked so dry, dehydrated, and almost scaly when I wore those together. I did wear this foundation to my day job – which results in a lot of movement and sweating. The foundation held up great for 8+ hours. It didn’t break up, I didn’t look oily, but I did notice it starting to settle into my smile lines – which is becoming the norm with any foundation I try. I tested it at both of my jobs, out running errands, laughing and crying at a friend’s baby shower, and had the same results: great.

If you’re looking for a new foundation or want to check out what’s new at the drugstore, this one is a total win. I think it would be great for both skin types, as you can manipulate it with primer and setting sprays. I used to be all about high coverage, MATTE skin, but I’m starting to like more sheer, dewy skin. You can achieve both with this, depending on how you use it and what you use with it. Be sure to check it out! When I picked mine up, lots of shades were already selling out, so it looks like everyone’s loving it!

Hidden Gem in Southern Illinois

Happy Friday! Today I wanted to share a hidden gem with you all. A friend of mine, Andrea, opened an adorable boutique a while back and I think everyone needs to know about it!

Daydream Boutique is located in downtown Mount Vernon, Illinois. They have a wide variety of trendy, super cute clothing, shoes, and accessories, and recently added makeup to their lineup! I’ll have links to their website, Facebook page, and Instagram handle below!

I stopped in this week and Andrea shared some of their new products with me – Glow Dust and Liquid Glow Drops! Highlighters are one of my favorite makeup products, so I was excited to try these out. The Glow Dust is available in five different shades – something for every skin tone! The liquid glow drops come in three shades, but a nice variety of tones as well.

Glow Dust shades:

Icy Girl – silver shift

Too Loud – light gold shift

After 5 – rose gold shift

Flossin’ – bronze shift

Baby Butter – gold shift

These retail for $15! They are a loose highlighter with a sifter in the packaging. This was the first time I’ve used a loose highlighter and am very impressed so far. The amount of pigment I got from these reminded me of the shine I get from popular brands like Natasha Denona and Anastasia Beverly Hills. I definitely need to scoop up more of the shades!

A few of these shades seem reminiscent of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Nicole Guerriero glow kit, which has since been discontinued. “After 5”, “Flossin’”, and “Baby Butter” would be great alternatives to the tones in that palette if you’ve gone through your favorite shades, or never picked it up since it was more on the high end of the price range.

Liquid Drops shades:

Boujee Babe – light gold shift

24 Karat – gold shift

Miami Mami – bronze shift

The liquid drops retail for $18.50! These are stored in a glass bottle and has a dropper top. The packaging feels very sturdy and of good quality. (I hate cheap packaging on products)

Recently I’ve been using cream and powder formulas layered together and have been loving the results. With these, I layered the liquid formula under the powder and loved the results. The powder one is so versatile – you can get a really nice, natural glow with it but building it up after a couple layers turns it into a blinding highlight! I used the shade “Too Loud” in the powder and “Boujee Babe” in the liquid. I’m also finding that mixing a couple drops of the liquid formula with my primer is creating a lovely, glowy base for my foundation.

I also picked up a lipstick and lip scrub from the boutique and am thoroughly impressed with those as well. You should definitely check this place out for the latest trends for fashion, accessories, and makeup. You get great quality products, all while supporting a small town business – what’s not to love?

Also, a special thank you to Andrea for hooking me up with these cool new products. They are definitely getting rotated into my favorite products and I’m excited to keep using them!

Purple Palette Pleasure

Hi guys! Welcome back to my blog, or if you’re new here – welcome!

Colourpop released the “It’s My Pleasure” palette last week on January 17th! I ordered mine on Friday, the 18th and just received it in today’s mail. I am super impressed with Colourpop’s shipping and turn around time thus far!

When I first saw this palette, it reminded me of Huda Beauty’s Amethyst Obsessions palette. I have tried Huda shadows in the past and they aren’t my personal favorite. I prefer soft formulas similar to Anastasia Beverly Hills. While the Huda shadows can be built up and vibrant, it takes a few layers to get them there. I LOVE purple shadows, and have been dying over the Huda palette since it released last fall, but didn’t want to spend almost $30 on a formula I’m not in love with. The Colourpop one retails for $12 and there are many discount codes you can use to get some money off.

This palette has four mattes and and five metallics. Below is a description of each shade from Colourpop’s website:

Kittenfish: matte cool lavender

Do or dough: metallic bright lavender with blue duo chrome flip

Pretty cruel: matte berry mauve with gold flecks

Bare minimum: metallic berry violet

Earthshine: metallic pinky lavender with a blue duochrome flip

Chick lit: metallic deep amethyst

Mr. Sandman: icy rose with a silver sheen

Fan fiction: matte dusty pink

Sleeper: matte eggplant

I can’t wait to play with this palette! Colourpop shadows are amazing for the price and I’m so excited to have this as an alternative to pricier palettes on the market. I’ve included pictures of swatches taken in natural lighting and with a flash.

I’ve also included a link to the palette: https://colourpop.com/products/its-my-pleasure

I’ll update with pictures of looks I’ve created!
